Victory Part 1: “Celebrating Victory”

“Celebrating Victory”

Joshua 1-4 Sermon Series: “Victory”

Introduction: As we celebrate our 10th anniversary at True Life, let’s apply God’s instructions to the children of Israel to our situation in order to celebrate the victories He has blessed us with in the first 10 years.

1. God shares His plan (1:1-4). God blesses His plans-not ours. Therefore, spiritual victory begins with a vision from the Lord.

2. God works mightily by His power through faith and obedience to accomplish His plan and bring victory (ch. 3). The power is the Lord’s, but it is expressed through our obedience, which is brought about by faith. God dried up the river when they stepped in instead of drying it up so they could step in (which is what we want).

3. We are called to thankful remembrance of God’s mighty acts (ch. 4). The memorial stones were designed to be a:

A. Reminder to give God glory for His intervention on behalf of His people.

B. Reminder of God’s faithfulness in the past that guarantees His faithfulness in the future.

C. Witness to the world.

Conclusion: Let’s rejoice in God’s goodness to us. Let’s throw a party for people who have been redeemed because heaven does (Luke 15). Let’s allow God’s past faithfulness to propel us forward

in faith in the future, believing that God has greater things in store for us for His glory.
