“Jesus Is__________”
Revelation 1:1
Sermon Series: “How To Survive The End Of The World”
Introduction: As is recorded in Matthew 16, Jesus asked His disciples two of the most important questions that have ever been asked. He asked them, “Who do men say that I am?” and then “Who do you say that I am?” Each of us must answer the second of those questions, and we must realize that He is who He is and not who we perceive Him to be.
Christianity is about Jesus. The Bible is about Jesus. Life is about Jesus. Biblical prophecy is about Jesus. One of the big mistakes people make when thinking about the end times is obsessing with the details instead of focusing on Jesus. In fact, the book of Revelation begins with these words, “the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Revelation means “to unveil or make visible.” The word picture indicates the pulling back of a curtain to fully see what is behind it. The book of Revelation unveils Jesus in all of His glory. The gospels focus on Jesus in His 1st coming when He humbled Himself in order to serve and save us while Revelation allows us to see Jesus in His present and eternal exalted state.
It is imperative that we Jesus for who He really is. When we really see Him, we will never be the same, but we will be permanently transformed by His grace. So, who is Jesus? Let’s look at five snapshots given to us in the book of Revelation.
1. Jesus is the glorified Head of the church (1:9-3:21). Honor and obey Him.
2. Jesus is the King who reigns over all forever and will return to set up His kingdom on the earth (11:15-18, 19:11-16, 20:4-6). Trust Him.
3. Jesus is the God of wrath who administers the justice of God (6:16-17, 20:11-15). Fear Him.
4. Jesus is the Lamb of God who died for the sins of the world (5:1-14). Worship Him.
5. Jesus is the good shepherd who eternally takes care of His people (7:9-17, 21:1-7, 22:1-5). Enjoy Him and be satisfied in Him.
Conclusion: It is all about Jesus. Do you know Him? Are you honoring and obeying Him? Do you trust Him? Do you fear Him? Are you worshipping Him? Are you enjoying Him and finding satisfaction in Him?
