“Desperate Dependence”
2 Chronicles 20:1-30
Sermon Series: “Greater”
Introduction: We are going to talk about depending on God through prayer. This applies to the desperate situations we face as individuals and the fact that we desperately need God to move on our behalf as a church for us to be everything He wants us to be.
*Main Idea: God works mightily on behalf of His people when we live in desperate dependence upon Him.*
What does it look like when we live in desperate dependence upon the Lord? Here are three characteristics:
1. When we are living in desperate dependence, prayer is the first response instead of the last resort (v. 1-6). Practically speaking, our first response to an overwhelming situation shows who or what we are really trusting.
2. When we are living in desperate dependence, we acknowledge our inability and God’s ability (v. 6-13).
A. We are powerless and clueless (v. 12).
B. God is the sovereign, all-powerful ruler who is completely in control (v. 5-6).
C. God is a personal God who faithfully takes care of His people (v. 7-9).
3. When we are living in desperate dependence, we follow God’s instructions by faith instead of our own ideas (v. 14-22).
Conclusion: God works mightily on behalf of His people when we live in desperate dependence upon Him (v. 22-30). Are you facing a desperate situation? What risks is God calling you to take to get you out of your comfort zone and really follow Him? Are we desperate to see the Lord move on behalf of our church?
