“Looking Unto Jesus”
Sermon Series: “Give Me Faith”
Introduction: The original plan was for me to begin a Christmas series this week. However, while I was in Israel, I believe that God led me in a different direction. I think that I am supposed to spend another week talking about faith. After the last sermon in the Give.Me.Faith series, someone asked me an excellent question. He basically said, “How do I look unto Jesus day to day in the middle of life while running a business, etc.?” I think that the Lord wants me to address that question in a practical manner in this message.
1. Why look unto Jesus? (Colossians 2:1-15)
A. Jesus is my salvation (v. 6, 11-15).
B. Jesus is my sanctifier (v. 4-8, 16-23) [There are
warnings here against living based on human wisdom and religious legalism.]
C. Jesus is my source of wisdom (v. 1-3). D. Jesus is my security (v. 10).
E. Jesus is my strength (v. 10).
2. How To Look Unto Jesus
A. Trust Jesus alone as our means and end (Hebrews
12:1-2).
B. Make it a priority to begin the day by spending time
with the Lord (Mark 1:35, Luke 10:38-42, Mark 14:3-9). C. Then, abide in Jesus (John 15:1-8).
D. Confess our sins and repent of them in order to
continue abiding and being in fellowship with Jesus (Proverbs 28:13).
E. Live in humble dependence upon Jesus (Matthew 8:5-10).
F. Surrender to His will and obey (Matthew 6:10, 7:24- 27).
G. Give Jesus thanks and praise (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
