Part 22: “Eat To Live”

“Eat To Live”

John 6:22-59

Sermon Series:  “Getting Acquainted With Jesus”

Introduction:  Jesus did not come for external reasons like putting on a spectacular religious show (v. 2), becoming a political ruler (v. 15), or satisfying our every desire (v. 26).  He came for spiritual reasons.  Jesus came to do the will of the Father by paying for our sins so we can be transformed by God and satisfied in God.

Main Idea:  Jesus, because He is God who died for our sins, will satisfy our empty souls if we trust Him.

1.  God’s Plan

A Relationship With Him (John 17:3)

Abundant Life (John 10:10)

Eternal Life (v. 47-51, Romans 6:23)

2.  Our Problem

Sin (Romans 3:23)

Sin separates us from God and causes us to be empty on the inside (v. 26-27, 35)

We look for answers in all the wrong places (Jeremiah 2:13)

3.  God’s Solution-Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

Jesus is God who became a man (v. 33, 35, John 1:1, 14)

Jesus died for our sins (v. 52-58)

Jesus rose from the dead (Romans 4:25)

4.  Our Response-Come to Jesus by faith (v. 26-40)

Jesus is the Bread of Life, but we have to receive Him into our lives by faith in order for Him to fill our souls.  Faith is turning from sin (Acts 3:19), trusting personally in Jesus and what He has done for us, and committing our lives to follow Christ because He is Lord (Romans 10:9-10).
