Introduction: We cannot do ministry without money so there is a sense in which giving is foundational to everything we do in ministry. Why should we give?
Main idea: Giving is a response to the greatness of Jesus that reveals what we really believe about Him.
Religious ideas about giving:
1. Obligation (pay tithes) 2. Guilt
- Bribery (get something)
- Look good
Giving needs to be from the inside out: A faith response
1. Giving is based on a recognition of the greatness of Jesus.
- He is our Eternal Priest (v. 7:20-28)
- He is our Priest who is a King (v. 1)
- He is our Priest who blesses us (v. 1)
- He is our righteousness
- He is our peace (we can’t have peace without righteousness)
- He is the Son of God
2. Giving is a response to the greatness of Jesus

3. Giving is revealer of what we truly believe about Jesus.

Why wouldn’t we give? (Heart Issue)
A. Don’t really believe in Him (not saved). Give Him your life
B. Not trusting Him in your finances
C. Idol of greed – Jesus isn’t your greatest treasure D. Lack of biblical knowledge or understanding E. Stewardship issues – finances are a mess
