“Jesus Is Our Reigning King”
Isaiah 8:22-9:7
Sermon Series: “Christmas In A Chaotic World”
Introduction: We have been looking at the titles of Jesus in this passage, but in this fifth and final message, we are going to focus on the description this passage gives of Jesus governing and reigning. I believe this is our hope for the present and future and that we have no hope if Jesus is not the reigning King.
Main Idea: Jesus is our Reigning King who will bring order to this chaotic world.
1. Jesus, the King, came as a Child at His first coming so He could give us the gift of salvation. He is the ultimate gift who gives us the gift of salvation and then ministers to us as the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
2. Jesus is the reigning King now.
A. He reigns over the world.
B. He reigns over Israel (“upon the throne of David and over His kingdom”)
C. He reigns over believers (He is our Lord, the kingdom is in our hearts, He can govern our lives and carry the burdens for us if we let the government of our lives be on His shoulder).
D. He reigns eternally (v. 7 says “even forever”).
3. Jesus will be the returning King at some point in the future. This passage pictures what will happen when Jesus returns to the earth and establishes His millennial Kingdom as the ultimate fulfillment of these promises (Isaiah 11, Revelation 19:11-20:6).
Conclusion: The work of Jesus past, present, and future is our eternal hope.
